Anger

I write this blog with a level of anger, a word that I don't use often. That's one of the reasons why my blog name is BreezyG (get it?). I debated this with my boyz last night, slept on it and I'm still...disappointed. Part of the reason is the loss my Wiz had last night against the Pacers, eliminating them from the playoffs. But it is not the only reason.

I don't care that the Pacers were the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference; these guys were there for the taking. But winning one home playoff game this season, including blowing a 19 point lead in game four, will not cut it. Changes will have to be made to have a chance to get to the next level.

Since I am one of those types that doesn't like to gripe without offering suggestions, here are a couple:

• Clean house upstairs: At one time, I wanted head coach Randy Wittman fired, but I have digressed. This team has played hard for him all year and stepped it up a little more this past postseason. At the pro level, it's more about motivation than instruction. He has earned a two year extension. As for the GM Ernie Grunfeld, that's another story, recent success aside. Not even talking about the picks he has made during his career here, here are some of the players that were available to be picked instead of the picks he did make: Luol Deng (2-time All Star), Marc Gasol (All-Star), Andre Ignodala (All-Star), Rajon Rondo (All-Star), Serge Ibaka, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard. John Wall is the only pure All-Star he has drafted in his 20 year career. Devin Harris, who was only selected to complete a draft day trade in which he went to Dallas and Michael Redd are the other two.

• Time to write the check: I am not calling owner Ted Leonisis a cheap owner. He wrote the check to keep Wall here and it has worked out so far. As I wrote in a previous blog (3/13/14: Letter to The Owner), it's time to get one of those top level free agents. Marc's brother Paul, Greg Monroe and Carmelo Anthony (yep, still) are on my short list.

• Clean house downstairs: While I am a fan of both Ariza and Gortat, I would be surprized if we could keep both. I would cut my losses and try to make a deal for #3 pick Porter. Heck, I would even keep vets Drew Gooden and Andre Miller. Aside from our Wiz Kids, everybody else, including Nene, is available. And I like Nene.

I feel better already. What do you think?

MVP = Most Valuable Person

My homeboy Kevin Durant won the NBA MVP award yesterday, breaking LaBron James three year stranglehold on the award. The five time All Star won his fourth scoring title in the last five years, averaging 32ppg this past regular season.

With all that said, this blog is only kinda about sports.

While most men have a strong connection with mothers in general, Black men in general REALLY have a strong connection with their mothers. Even guys whose mothers are no longer on this plane, still feel her spirit in their everyday lives.

It's no different with KD. In his acceptance speech, while he gave props to his teammates, it all came back to the person who made it all possible. He talked about when he (and his brother) and his mother moved into a apartment and it was one of the happiest times of his young life. They just hugged each other in the middle of the living room, having someplace they could call their own. He also talked about while his mother went to bed hungry, she made sure that her boys ate. She also played the role of coach, waking him up at five o'clock in the morning to run steps. She kept him off the streets and helped give him a chance at success.

Like he said, she's the real MVP.

Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers...both here and in your heart.
