The magic number for the Mavs is one. It comes down to getting one win for Jason Terry to keep his championship trophy tattoo on his arm. Despite a gutty performance by King Wade (my boy), a triple double by Prince James, the Heat’s bench outscoring the Mavs bench and 59 points from the Heat big three, Dallas is just one win away.
In reviewing the first half, I thought that the Heat actually caught a break when King Wade (my boy) got hurt, seemingly giving Prince James an avenue to work his magic. It was actually part three of the decision (Bosh) who kept the Heat in the game. His play helped to offset the Mavs shooting a torrid 66% from the field in the first half. Commentator Stephen Smith suggested earlier today personal issues that are distracting James from playing better. It just shows how really hard it is to try to be a global icon. And before you say I’m drinking the haterade for Labron, let me just say that he scored, wait for it, zero points in the fourth quarter. He has scored two points (or less) in the 4th quarter for the fourth straight game. That’s not hate, that’s fact.
It went from bad to worse when Wade didn’t start the second half. But despite the Mavs great shooting, Miami kept it close until Wade came back. Playing with that bad hip, King Wade still scored a courageous 23 points. But Dallas, as they have done all year, came up big in the big games. From Dirk to The Jet (21 points – 8 in the 4th qtr.) to J.J. Barea, who dropped 17 on the Heat as the new starter for the Mavs.
As the series goes back to South Beach, I think it’s time to consider putting this series in the classic category. Every game has been very competitive and spirited. I personally counted five future Hall of Famers on the floor at one time. I’m just sayin.

You went deep on that song ....lol
ReplyDeleteYes it has been a great series! All the games have been competitive and fun to watch. I'm still waiting for LeBron to show up in the 4th quarter (No hate, I'm just saying).
ReplyDeleteYou've got to give the Mavs credit for their never say die attitude and 48 minutes of effort on a nightly basis! NBA action is fantastic!
Breezy, did you say classic...."Stop, hold on stay in control".....
ReplyDeleteI've seen 2-3 games where one team, collasped down the steatch, especialy game 2?- 15 points down then "Dirk" , I mean Dallas comes back, and then game 4, Miami jacks a couple of threes (Le'Bra) misses and Dallas scores the other way. Maybe even last night Miami collasped...? Dirk did miss a game tying shot in game three.
Not quite a classic...but wait we may get to game 7...doubt it.

I am neither a fan of Dallas or Miami, but regardless of who blew the game or the lead or the scenario behind which team lost, coming back from a 15-point deficit with 5 minutes a cpl games back is pretty classic. The series has been classic in a sense, because prior to the series starting most people had miami in 5 or 6. Not only will that not happen but Dirk Nowitzki has also established himself as a household name surpassing his current NBA superstar status. Watching one of the best teams (On Paper) in the history of the league constantly self-destruct in the 4th quarter is also pretty classic. Don't get me wrong this years finals is no where close to the top or middle finals series of all-time. However it has been pretty classic especially for recent NBA history. It's also better entertainment than watching Kobe impersonate Michael Jordan's walk with his hand on his hip or his crossover or pushoff, and its also better than watching Tim Duncan shoot 17-foot jumpers off the backboard.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Never utter that "prospect" again until right before the START of the 4th quarter in game 7. And even then, the game better be tighter than a sphincter in a foxhole in Afghanistan. THEN, and only then, can we even THINK about HAVING that conversation, let alone actually have it...
ReplyDeleteThe Mav's better win this one - they aren't getting any younger, but the Heat would
ReplyDeletedo well to do the same. We might see some other super teams forming around the league
that will make it even more difficult for everyone involved to get a championship (as if it it weren't to begin with!). If Oklahoma, who has a low pay roll, can convince another player to join them, they are going to be awfully tough to beat.
I commend Dwight Howard for stating an interest in staying in Orlando (where he doesn't
have enough help to win it all), but if he does join the Lakers, a Kobe,Gasol,Howard triumvirate would be lethal.
I still think it's going to take some more hot 3 pt shooting by Dallas to finish off the Heat.
Gonna be fun to watch tonight!!
